I recently made the Game Day Jersey for my husband, Aaron. He likes shirts that are tighter than looser, and I didn’t want to make something for him that would just sadly sit in the closet, unworn, unloved. So, I purchased the Kid’s version —- shhhhhhh!!!! He actually gets a lot of his shirts from the kids sections at the thrift store, so it’s not THAT big of a secret! His measurements put him at a 14. He really preferred the crew neck of the men’s version so, I just bit the bullet and drafted my own pattern piece for the neckline by blending the Men’s Game Day XS crew neck front yoke with the Kids’ Game Day 14 scoop neck front. Even then, I had to re-draft the piece to make it match up at the shoulders. I lengthened and dropped the back yoke slightly by blending the two sizes’ back yokes as well. I used the same neckband as from the Men’s XS pattern piece. Then I crossed my fingers. Aaron thinks this shirt is the best because he was able to live through the process. Which I think is one of the best things about making your own clothes- appreciation for the process and the materials. The pattern did take me a while to finish, but that was all due to having to fit my little man and not the instructions. Now that I have the pieces that will fit him, it will be a snap to make it again! I particularly like the way the yoke is assembled, no burrito method! I would recommend trying this pattern! It’s an easy introduction to knits, and should be no problem if you know how to put in a set in sleeve.
